Sand, Or No Sand?

A very controversial topic in the hermit crab pet world is substrate.

I am going to explain what I think about it.

I think, and I am open to disagreement, that sand is okay, but not necessarily good. I have heard from many sources that sand gets into the back of a hermit crab's very delicate abdomen and rubs on it, making it extremely uncomfortable. On the other hand, I have heard that sand is perfectly fine, and a good option. So, with two opposing sides to the argument of using sand or not, I look for another substrate option.

EcoEarth (aka. coconut fiber) Is another option I found. It holds moisture well, doesn't get into the backs of shells often (and if it does, it doesn't bother hermit crabs), and hermit crabs enjoy it as a nutritious snack.

So, with the options laid out in front of me, I chose my verdict. EcoEarth.

I encourage you to research all options and make your verdict. And, as always, comment on my verdict, and what you think.
